Avery enjoys making up songs for Aileen and performs them
for her while she is sitting in her walker.
His lyrics have included phrases like “Aileen slobber” and “I wuv you
Aweenie”. Aileen smiles and laughs while
being entertained by his animated performance.
Sunday evenings are a time we try to intentionally plan
something fun for our family to do together.
Lately, we have enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies and playing board
games or watching a family movie.
Aileen is cute when we dress her in footie pajamas right
before bed. You can tell that she just
loves them because she excitedly wiggles with wide eyes and a smile. Then, she wants to stand up in them and
stretch her toes and feet out in the footies.
Our family had a weekend planned to take a drive and visit
Great Grandma Wooderson. That morning,
Clint attended a deacon’s meeting before we left. Avery caught on to where his daddy was and
what he was doing. While Avery was
playing at his Great Grandma’s house, he lined several adults and some kids up
and led his own “deacon’s meeting”. He
perched up on Great Grandma’s empty walker and used her walking canes to call
our attention to vote on such things as a rocket ship and dump truck for the
church.
Our little girl has a lot of hair for a baby at her
age. When she wakes up in the morning,
it is adorable how she looks with it all disheveled paired with her sleepy eyes
and peaceful demeanor.
We enjoyed having some steamed broccoli and Italian sausage
for supper one evening. Avery, although
a picky eater, decided he liked the meat, but confused about it’s name asked
for some more “Japanese sausage”.
“It’s simply exasperating!” exclaimed Avery when he was
frustrated about losing patience while trying to color all of the empty spaces
in his coloring page and staying within the lines. When we asked him where he learned that word,
he said that “Donald Duck says it”.
Superheroes are a big interest at our house. Clint loves the Marvel comics superhero-like
movies that are popular right now, and Avery enjoys watching old (and
preschooler appropriate – like the ’67 Spiderman series) superhero cartoons on
Netflix. Avery also likes the Disney
show “Jake and the Neverland Pirates”.
Avery often coaxes us to play make-believe with him where gets into costume
using hats, capes, and masks from the dress up basket in the closet. He picks out our costumes as well. We think it’s really funny that he always
chooses to be the main good guy, we are often his sidekicks, and then wants
Aileen to be the “bad guy” like “The Sandman” or “Mr. Smee”.
Over the weekend we decided to have a special treat by going
through the drive-through and ordering ice cream. Avery overheard us placing our order. Then, after driving up to the second window
to pay and receive our ice cream, Avery shouts to the worker from the back seat
“Hey!! Are you the guy we were talking
to earlier?!”
After receiving our ice cream, we were able to hand Avery an
ice cream shake. Clint commented on how
much easier it is now that we can just hand Avery a shake for him to hold by
himself. We use to try to awkwardly
spoon feed him ice cream by reaching from the front seat over to the back seat.
Aileen sometimes gets a little fussy because it is hard for
her to sit still in a carseat at times.
Avery helps out a lot by trying to make her laugh by singing and making
funny faces and sounds. It sometimes
upsets him to hear Aileen upset. Avery
sweetly asked, “Mommy, can you put my drink in the cupholder? I want to make Aileen happy now.” Since Avery knows that Aileen is teething, he
happily says, “Awwww…Aileen. Suck on
your fingers and don’t be mad!”
Avery asks, “Mommy, how do you make snow globes? How does cold snow stay inside of them if
your house is warm?”(meaning, why doesn’t the snow melt)
