New Words - Speaking and Writing

Aileen

Enjoys coloring as long as you are sitting nearby for company.  If you get up and leave, she shows her frustration by scribbling on the table.

Used to enjoy a banana at breakfast each morning but now has tired of them.  She is able to eat a bowl of cereal and milk with a spoon like her big brother.  Sometimes she gets frustrated if the cereal falls off, so she lays the spoon aside and just uses her fingers.  She can pick up her bowl and drink the rest of the milk when finished with the cereal.

She has become a bit more of a picky eater.  If the Cheerios are plain, rather than honey-nut flavored, she whines.  Beans have never been something she would eat, although her brother likes them.  If there is something she chooses not to eat, she picks it off her plate and sets it over onto ours or off to the side.  Meat is generally something that she refuses to even taste unless it is sausage.  She must have a keen sense of smell because she comes running to the kitchen asking for food once the aroma of the food wafts through the living room where she is playing.

Does like to eat a lot of fruit – especially pears and apples cut into thin slices

“bee bah” – be right back

“apeegoo?” – asking for apple juice

Aileen is now combining words (first recorded this on 1/2/14).  She asked for “moh chee?” (more cheese?)

“te too” – thank you

“balahlahluh” – banana

“co her?” – asking to color with crayons

She likes to eat her Cheerios snack out of her play tea cups.

Aileen likes to sit on our laps and watch a TV show or kids movie.  She sits pretty still for a good amount of time since she is so observant and seems to just quietly soak everything in.  If there is a scene where a character is sad, she will say “Oh, noo….” as if she is sympathizing.

Music perks her up, and she likes to smile and bob up and down to it.

The church nursery workers commented how Aileen is generally happy and pleasant.

Her name, “Aileen Lane” means “light bearer from the narrow road”.  I pray that her life shines the light of God’s love to others.

Avery

Invents video games in his mind.  He declared, “I just downloaded a new game for my eyes.”

Decorated Christmas cookies with his grandma and called them his “Avery Delights”.

New interest in drawing inventions.  “Oh no!  Here is another invention coming…” as he runs off to draw it.

Likes to make up words and ask them what they mean, like he is testing whether or not his made up word is actually a real word.

He has been trying to spell and write down messages or signs, and is interested in how he can sound out letters and spell a word all by himself.  He has tried to sound out words from road signs, books and mail to us to guess whether he was correct.

Clint took Avery to watch at Taekwondo class to see if he would be interested in joining.  Avery was a little timid at first and wanted to sit on his Dad’s lap, but was so enamored with the forms that he was doing the punches and kicks along with the class from the side where he was watching.  The instructor asked for a volunteer for a move, which he wasn’t getting much response from the class – except for Avery.  Avery had his hand up and was jumping eagerly to be called upon (another student was chosen).  After the class, the instructor came over to talk to Clint about the program.  Avery wanted to impress the instructor and said “Watch this kick!” (he performed the very best kick he knew how to do).  The instructor said, “That would be a very good kick if the person was on the ground.”

Avery enjoys watching his Dad perform improvisational skits with a group at his church for a kid’s night.  Clint is often in goofy roles on stage.  Avery comes home almost bragging to me how well his Dad did.
